Actually, in the case of RB wrapper it's even possible to work without

intermediate metafiles/bitmaps, because RB caches images of objects in the

designer itself (this wrapper uses metafile only when drawing design-mode

object, it draws directly on reports).

Metafiles usually require much less memory than bitmaps.
