How to tell if a table row is selected

I would like to know if there is a way to tell if a table row is selected.

I want to be able to delete the table row that is highlighted after clicking

on the vertical edge of the table border for the row you want to select.

Actually, it would also be nice to know if the same can be done for the selected

column.
